Q: why can't i access my private messages in itunes u

On the computer, iTunes U says I have a new private message.  When I look for the message, none of the posts are annotated like they are supposed to be if a message is attached.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  It doesn't show up on my iPad, only through the desktop browser.  It is driving me crazy.  I wish I could just turn Private message off completely.

Where, specifically, in the user interface does it report a new private message? A screenshot would help.

Right when you log in as the teacherScreenshot 2016-09-23 12.08.03.pnglike this.  When I click on the new private messages, it takes me to a list like thisScreenshot 2016-09-23 12.09.44.pngand there is a little 1 on the posts bubble at the bottom, but when I try to find a post that should have some indication of a PM, there are none.  When I try to click on the actual posts from here, it won't let me open them.  So, I can't find it anywhere, and I don't think I should have to go through every single post I have ever made, and click on every single student who is enrolled in order to see if they did send me a message.

    The image helped a lot!

That's not a "1" on the Posts icon, that's some kind of visual noise. (Badged icons elsewhere in the UI use a red circle or red or blue text.) What versions of OS and browser are you using?

As to finding the private message, have you tried using the gradebook instead of the assignment list? (If you haven't used it before, click "Admin" in the bottom toolbar, then "Grades" in the top tab-bar.)

Thank you   Our school  has not let us do the current update yet...so we are running on X Yosemite I think. It is my desktop I am seeing this from. I did try going to admin, and grades.....and it is shaded out....like the kids populate on the left, but I can't scroll through them because they are shadowed out, and the list won't scroll.
