Hello dssheorey,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue with your keyboard after updating is not what you expect. The good news is the following steps will be helpful in resolving your issue and get your keyboard working properly again. First, start with resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

If you're still having an issue after resetting the SMC, use safe mode to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, delete system cache files, verifies your startup disk, and attempts to repair directory issues if needed. Log into your user account while in safe mode and test the issue again. Then restart normally and test again to see if this issue is resolved.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up
Limited graphics performance in OS X recovery or safe mode
