Q: Deleting Email in Notification Center - iOS 10

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded to ios 10 and while it's great on a few things, I find it not so great for my email and the notification center.

Using the previous version of iOS, I would view my notification center and it would show me all the most recent emails that came in.  Any email the I wanted to mark as read, I'd swipe right and mark as read or any email that I wanted to delete, I'd swipe left and delete.  I was email to breeze by and clear through several emails using this method.

Now, when I see the email in the notification center, I swipe left, and I have VIEW and CLEAR.  I know that clear, clears that notification away and view, opens up a little sub window where I have the ability to then "TRASH" the message if I don't want it.  While this feature is fine, it's a little annoying to go through this process 100 times where as the previous method was bam bam bam.

Any way to get that old way back again!?

Thank you, Dov

iPhone 6, iOS 10

Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but my fiance has an iPhone 6s (with 3D Touch) and it's the same annoying behavior except you push (vs. clicking view). While that sounds like a slight improvement it really isn't. The push forces you to really push hard (admittedly you can change this), you still have to click Mark as Read and wait for the annoying animation.

Are you guys saying that maybe there are settings in iPhone 6s to configure this to re-enable Mark as Read and Trash like it is on iOS 9? At some point my company is going to cut off support for iOS 9, which is terrifying. I've never thought about switching to Android but this one is really making me think I may have to go that route. I can't believe Apple would make something so ridiculously unusable. I'd like to meet the UX person who thought this was a good idea.

no, there is no option to make this action in ios 10 in ios 9, at least not that Im aware of (and thats exactly what I would want).  I have a 7 now as well and force touch definitely makes it acceptable (but not great as point out) but that doesnt help me out on non force touch phones.

I downgraded my 6 based back to ios9 based on this, than upgraded back to ios10 again based on the earlier comment that a long press will achieve the same thing, which didnt turn out to the be the case, so now I have downgraded back to ios9 again.

Just as a heads up, one of the replies that I posted here about me talking about myself going back to the old ios was removed / deleted by apples support staff.  I guess they don't to condone or promote negativity to their newest operating systems or products? *sigh*

Holy smokes! Are you serious? So not just did Apple regress this feature to the point it's unusable, they also (a) know about it, (b) aren't weighing in *on their own support boards*, and (c) are removing posts by members who are trying to help other members. Just awful all around. Come on, Apple. You're better than this.

wow all i was set up email Tim Cook directly about deleting these messages on the premise of criticizing the new products, but i also see at the top of this page a post by jbinseattle with a link to lifehacker describing how to downgrade to ios 9.  It has a green "solved" icon on the right so I dont think Dovalah's message got deleted for promoting negativy as the "solved post is about as negative as it gets.

Remember the screenshot post that posted?  Guess what, apple removed it and I wasn't even notified about the removal as well!  This is ridiculous.  Can't even voice opinion on Apple discussion site!

Im not defending Apple in the slightest nor am I accusing you of lying, but Im not sure why they are deleting your posts because there are clearly other posts, including mine, that could be considered negative and certainly a criticism, including the lone post that is marked as "helpful" (does apple mark that or the OP?), so I'm not so sure your messages are being deleted for that reason alone.

I do agree that to the extent that they are deleting your posts due to perceived negativity, thats not right, especially for a company who, especially under Tim Cook's watch, has been more active in social rights issues.  I suggest emailing Tim directly.

Guess what? They removed my "solved" post too. I'm absolutely floored. Can't believe Apple removed *the post that explains how to get out of this terrible situation* Stunned, really.

jqc, remember one of the earliest posts in this section that was marked as "Helpful" with the link showing where / and how to downgrade?  Guess what, his post was removed too!  It will be a matter of time that this thread gets deleting because we are not promoting the advancement of the newest apple products!

I dont like the change to emails too...

But I noticed you can now trash them from the notification page as long as you at least an iPhone 6S... using the force touch, trash becomes an option. Still not nearly as nice as just swiping to delete.

    hope that helps.
