Q: How to turn off IOS 10 predictive emoji

After updating to IOS 10 the predictive text suggestions don't appear to be as relevant as in IOS 9, and one suggestion slot is taken up with an emoji. How to I disable this inane feature - I'm not a five year old, and I text adults who can read without needing pictures to help them! This is really annoying and I want to turn it off.

Thanks for any suggestions - and no, I don't want to turn off predictive text, only to stop emoji characters from appearing in a "predictive text" bar - they're not text they're pictures. Grrrr!

    Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Edit > Delete Emoji.

    Hi tt2,

Thanks but that deletes the entire emoji keyboard. While that may remove emoji text replacement suggestions - I haven't tried - it's not the answer I was looking for. I don't mind emoji per se, I just don't want them offered as replacements for predictive text suggestions. I want the three predictive text suggestions back, not two plus and emoji as introduced in IOS 10.

Yes, I tested it. Removing the emoji keyboard changes the results for the text completions. If you're not planning to send emoji then you don't need it, but it can be restored in moments if you want it. Removing the keyboard won't stop others sending emoji to you. I cannot find any other way to keep emoji from the replacement list.

    Hi tt2,

Thanks again for the suggestion, and it may be the best we can get until Apple wakes up and realises that its business customers and may others like me don't need or want emoji suggestions.

For example, suppose I had English, French, Hindi, and Emoji keyboards. When typing using the English keyboard I wouldn't expect to get French or Hindi word suggestions, and I don't expect to get Emoji suggestions either.

I was hoping that there was a sensible option hidden away for "Include emoji in word suggestions" or something similar. Hopefully Apple will add this with the next update.

Use iPhone feedback to let Apple know you'd like an option to control that feature.
