Q: iOS10 update on 6plus; can't play music via usb in any car

I updated my 6plus to iOS 10 over the weekend. Since then, I can no longer play music in my vehicles using a USB cable. The song information shows up in my car display and it looks like it is playing but there is no sound.

If I select 'Bluetooth' streaming, it will play the audio but the volume is extremely low.

I strongly believe this is an issue with iOS 10 because if I use another phone (a 5s) that is not upgraded to iOS 10, the USB music streaming works just fine.

I have encountered this issue in a 2015 Fiat Abarth 500c and in a 2016 Nissan Rogue.

Does anyone have a work around or a solution?

    Greetings GryphonM,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like you want to use USB playback from the iPhone to a car, and it is not working correctly. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting and it does work with Bluetooth but with a low volume. I would recommend you read this article, it may be able to help troubleshoot the issue.

    If you're using USB Playback

    1. Restart your iOS device and your car.
    2. Connect your iOS device to a different stereo USB port (if you have one).
    3. Try a different USB cable.
    4. Update your iOS device.
    5. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
    6. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a specific third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support.

    Take care.

    GryphonM,

I have the exact same problem, and so far there's no decent answer. The only solution I've found is to revert iOS 9, though that's not much of a "solution."

Why Apple can't reinstitute the "downloaded music" switch of previous systems is ridiculous.

I suggest calling Apple support and registering a complaint.

Re: low bluetooth volume, try completely un-pairing and then re-pairing both your vehicles to your iphone, as that has worked for me. I have an open case with Apple, so if I hear anything new I'll report back.
