Q: Bootcamp Question

I have an external hard drive, My Passport Ultra 2TB, and I wanted to know if installing bootcamp on it will erase the other files on it since it's partitioned to mac.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    windows does not default support being installed on an external hd only the main internal one is officially supported in bootcamp

    when one setup bootcamp one choose a to create a partition on the main hd and in the process resizing the main hard disk making the mac partition smaller

     

    if you don't need to play 3d games you can use virtual box from oracle it's a free virtual machine which can have it's virtual hard disk file places wherever you choose (though placing it on a usb2 connected hd may impair performance)
