how do I turn OFF the sound an app plays on my iPhone when I receive a notification in iOS10? It is annoying, especially the constant NEWS app sounds.

You can use either Mute or Do not Disturb. Both are accessible from the Control Center. Also you can try settings> Notifications> News> allow notifications> off.

Bob, thanks for your reply. I actually like getting the NEWS notifications, I just don't want to be disturbed by the sound that the iOS10 makes each time a NEWS notification comes in, and I can't find a sound button in that app to turn off . . . Can I mute only that one incoming sound?

SWarner, thanks for your reply. I actually like getting the NEWS notifications, I just don't want to be disturbed by the sound that the iOS10 makes each time a NEWS notification comes in, and I can't find a sound button in that particular NEWS app to turn off . . .

You're welcome. It appears in some Notifications you can turn off the sounds individually but I can't find a way in News.
