Q: CarPlay problems after iOS 10 Update

Ever since iOS 10 my CarPlay functions have been very glitchy, mostly when I got navigation going on at the same time. Here's a few things I encounter:

  • Music freezes (can't change songs, can't tap into the app if I tap out of it, icon zooms in once it gets past freezing)
  • Siri mutes herself when reading texts (only seems to happen when I listen to a text straight from a notification
  • CarPlay itself randomly disconnects for a couple seconds at a time (although it MAY be my wire but it has yet to show any tears)

Also some other pet peeves from BEFORE iOS 10 that are still happening now with Music:

  • Some radio station genres found in Apple Music on iPhone/iPad/Mac are not listed in CarPlay

Anyone else w/ CarPlay suffering from these problems?

iPhone 6s, iOS 10

My Pandora program does not work at all in CarPlay mode.  Just says Loading, never had this problem before and am quite unhappy since I've paid for Pandora for a year (only $50 bucks - but still)  Since my AVH 4000NEX Pioneer does not have a 3.5mm jack, can not listen.  Also getting very strange readings on the Music Library.  Some times it says I only have 1 song in the Library,  and the Playlists do not show up.   Quite disappointed that Apple would release this with such an important function crippled by bugs.

After Market Pioneer worked with iOS 9.3, upgraded to 10, now iPhone won't connect.  Seems to be a software problem - the stereo tries to connect "attempting to connect to CarPlay" then it fails.  Tried restarting the deck and the iPhone.

Before iOS 10, worked beautifully every time, without fail.

    Same problem here.

Playlists in Carplay are arranged in alphanumerical order depending of filenames.

I have also the VW App-Connect system from 2015 and have also the newestes firmware for App-Connect.

I' m in contact with Apple support and engineers.

Seems that there is a communication problem between App-COnnect and iOS 10.

Mine works great if I plug it in after I turn the car on, but then when I disconnect and get out of the car, the phone is completely frozen and requires a reset. This is so frustrating, not being able to use a major feature of the car.

I don't have CarPlay, but since upgrading to iOS 10.0.1 on my iPhone 6 Plus, I've been getting the same random "accessory not supported" pop-ups on my phone. I have it connected via Lightning/USB cable to the USB port in my dash, but use that only for charging. The phone is paired via Bluetooth to my Highlander's radio for music playback, phone calls, etc. Playback isn't interrupted when this pop-up appears, so I'm guessing it's related to the Lightning cable and not Bluetooth, but I've been using the same cable for years and never had the problem until iOS 10.

Been having issues with carplay since upgrading to iOS 10. It's charging the phone but it won't connect to Carplay, the dialog box on the car is telling me it's connecting before it suddenly gives a disconnection message.

To add to the confusion when I connected another phone it briefly worked, but when I reconnected the phone I encountered the same issues as on the other phone.

Really annoying as I find the Carplay functionality useful. Fix this Apple!

I downgraded to iOS9 and it works fine again. I hope they resolve this soon.

Update to 10.0.2 didn't fix the problems with iOS 10 and CarPlay.

Yes, I have the same issue with messenger on my iphone 6 Plus with 2016 Sonata. iMessage won't read directly from alerts but if I go into the messages it will then read the message aloud. Other then your thread I haven't found any new information. I am thinking about calling Apple this weekend.

When I  installed ios10 on my iPhone 5,

    * I cannot use Maps and Car radio parallel anymore

    * Siri is not answering, doesnt work

    * I cannot search destinations

My car is a Hyundai Tucson.

I went back to 9.3.5 with a lot of problems, I couldnt play back the Backup, because the backup was done with ios10. Everything lost, start from scratch. I thought Apple has a good backup system...

I dont know, is it a OS problem or Hyundai hat to upgrade....

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Actually everything is working as normal with Carplay on the GLE. It's just the new lock screen arrangement in iOs 10 that's causing the issues. Carplay won't read your emails if the phone is locked and with iOs 10 it seems to be permanently locked no matter what you do to it.

So far my onlu problem is that Pandora won't work in CarPlay with my Pioneer SPH-DA120. The app will crash whether I try to open it on the deck or the phone. Everything else, including Spotify, seem to be working fine.

CarPlay worked fine on IOS 9.3.5 in my Peugeot Tepee 2016.

After the update to IOS 10 my car doesn't detect my iPhone. Bluetooth and 'iPod' (usb) mode works fine.

I tried a bunch of different ( original and non-original) cables. No result.

I hope there is going to be a quick fix.
