Q: How can I format an external hard drive
I am trying to use an external hard drive with Time Machine. It tells me that my external must be formatted in a “journaled” format. I can’t find any way to do that and the Mac is not doing it either. Can anyone tell me how to do this formatting so that Time Machine will work?

If Time Machine doesn't reformat the drive itself, choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu, open the Disk Utility, select the drive in the sidebar, and erase it.
