Q: Updated Safari last night.  Now the free online games on AARP, will not load.  It's not the website because my husband's macbook pro still loads them

I've updated to the latest version of Safari, on my 2015 macbook air.  Since then, the games I play, on the AARP website, won't load.  I checked to make sure Flash was up to date and it is.  I also have an old iMac  that I play on.  I haven't updated that machine yet.  Right now the games load on that one.  Is anybody else having this problem?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

You are welcome. Don't feel embarrassed. Sometimes it takes some time to isolate and fix a problem. To use an old phrase 'Been there, Done that'.

and in the beginning, that's all I thought it was...a setting.  But when I googled for answers, nothing came up.  I checked everything I could think of...just didn't realize the update would change settings in Safari.  Thank you again for trying to help me.

Ah, you found the cause before I posted the solution.

It's nice that Apple added yet more online security to Safari 10, but it sure would have been nice if they'd told users about the change in Flash access. Bad enough the user was left to find the cause for this kind of problem on their own, but it was kind of buried, too.

yes it was buried.... so you've also had this happen?  At least a solution is posted here, now.

Not myself, but a couple of recent posts after Safari 10's release in both Sierra and as an update for El Capitan popped up here. Sites suddenly wouldn't work in Safari, but would in other browsers. So then it was a hunt to see why.

well, now that I know what happened, I did the update on the iMac.  Sure enough, it turned off Flash Player.  I went to Safari preferences, then to manage plug-ins and turned it back on for my favorite websites and set it to "ask" for the others...  I still have to update hubby's macbook but he doesn't use much of anything that needs flash player.  I may set his to "ask" for everything.

I have the same problem. I did as you explained, but my aarp site listed "on". Still cannot get it to work.

Any other ideas? I wish I could go back to the old Safari.

wow, sorry that's not working for you.  I'm not real techy (obviously) so the only other things I can think of is to make sure you have flash updated.  Also, while you were in the "manage plug-ins" part of the preferences menu, did you set it to "ask" for all other sites?    I did that on the main button at the bottom of that window.

I really wanted the update on my iMac because it's a security issue.  I'm glad I found out what the problem was on my macbook so that I could go ahead with the iMac update and will also update hubby's macbook now, also.  ...

One of the things I tried, before finding the answer, was to uninstall flash player and then do a clean install of it from their site.  That wasn't my problem but it might help you.  Let us know what did help, when you find the answer...

    Hi Barbara,

What specifically doesn't work on the AARP site? "It" leaves a lot of choices. oldhippie51 mentioned games. Do you mean those? The wife and I are very recent members. I tried a few of the online games and had no trouble with them.

Harp games no longer load on Safari. They did until the Safari update of a few days ago. )They do work on Firefox, but I seldom use that browser.)

Other things have been happening. I use the zap2it TV schedule, and that was completely messed up. Got that redone, but still can't fix the Aarp games.

This is probably grasping at straws but if you delete all your web data, Safari cache, history and your old bookmark for AARP, then reboot and go to the game you play and make a fresh bookmark?

When you go to the game you wish to play, and click the "play button"  does the screen come up normal except that where the game is, you get a black rectangle shaped box?  That is what I got when I was having my problem.

If that's not what you see, then post a description of what is happening when you try to play.  It might tell someone on here, what's going on with your mac.

Tried those things. Nothing. It used to be a wide rectangular black box like you describe, but now it is the full size game box, black, with the spinning circle. Never stops spinning

Well if you have the spinning thing, then it's not probably not flash.  It's trying to load.....  maybe someone else will have some ideas.
