Q: Why is my Apple CD - Super Drive not connecting to my iMac?
Why is my Apple CD - Super Drive not connecting to my iMac? It used to before I upgraded to el Capitan. Now it will not allow a CD to be inserted, and the Icon is not displaying on my desktop. However, the device is being displayed in Finder, and seems to sit for over 15 minutes trying to connect. Any advise appreciated.

The Apple default is that drives, volumes, and servers don't show in the desktop but that can be changed with Finder Preferences.
Normally, simply upgrading to El Capitan should not erase yor previous Finder settings for this but if you did an erase and install, they would be reset to the default. Look at Finder preferences > General tab and see if the "Show..." checkboxes look like this:
And--please excuse me as I do not mean to be condescending, rude, or snarky---is the drive right-side up? I have to ask because within the last two weeks an experienced user here had similar symptoms and finally realized that in doing some rearranging of his work area, he had inadvertently turned the Superdrive upside-down so the disks inserted face up were not reading.
