Q: This application requires iOS 8.0 or later
Just checked my phone for software update and I'm told my iOS 7.1.2 software is up to date. When I try to download some apps, various different ones tell me: This application requires iOS 8.0 or later. Can anyone explain this?? Am I just outta luck?
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

You do not identify what iPhone you have, but if you find that iOS 7.1.2 is the last one you can update, then you probably have the iPhone 4. If that is the case, then no you cannot update past that. As far as the applications are concerned, it is the decision of the app developer as to what is available. You can check this support document to see if an older version is available. Not all are, so with an older device as you have, you will have to settle for what you find. Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support
