Q: iMac (27in Mid 2010) won't burn dvd - Sierra

Hi All,

I am running iMac as above with the new MacOS Sierra. I have used the same DVD-R discs on this very same iMac last year and they ran with no issues. I have recently updated to Sierra and now I get the error: 'The disc can't be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x8002006E)'. And then it finishes with the iMac spitting the disc out at me!

Does anyone out there have any advice? I have looked at the Apple Help page (what help that is!?!) and nothing they have suggested works. I can see that there are many people that have had this issue in the past. And I was wondering if anyone has managed to fix it, or have a way round it without me having to pay out for an external cd/dvd drive.....?

Thanks in advance for any advice/support.

Try different brand and see what happens, if that does not work it's close to 7 years old and the DVD drive may need cleaning. Go to your local office supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit.

Since you tried everything, it is possible that your Superdrive is broke.  You cleaned it right?

External burner is the way to go anyway if you do not want to take your iMac in for an Superdrive repair.  You'll never look back.
