Q: Unable to hear unless speaker is turned on and off

Guys,

I am not sure how to fix this in settings for my iphone 6s. I cant seem to hear the person on the other end unless speaker phone is turned on and off. This is happening post the new ios 10 update. Not sure if I may have accidentally changed any settings and cant seem to get it back on track. Please help!

    Hi there,

Just to see, try doing an iCloud Backup on your iPhone and then resetting it to factory defaults.  Don't restore from your Backup yet. After you've configured it (as if it were a new iPhone), see if you still have the symptom.  If you don't have the symptom, then we can isolate the problem to a setting or configuration challenge and can go from there.  If it still does it, then perhaps its your recent iOS update or perhaps some kind of hardware issue.

And just so I can clarify your symptoms, you can't hear anyone on the phone speaker until you toggle your Speaker.  So when you turn the speaker off, your phone speaker begins working normally again? Or it only works through the speaker?

    Thanks!

    Kolton

    Hey Kolton,

Thank you for this..so I basically figured out what the actual problem was and resolved it. And yes you got the symptoms right...I had to toggle the speaker to get it working.

So apparently my phone was stuck on a headphone mode. Even when I did not have headphones connected it would assume they are and thus I could not hear directly through my handset unless I toggled the speaker. Here's what I did...took a very thin stick, wrapped a cotton around it and pushed it into the headset connector. There wasn't much to clean in there however I kept moving it back and forth for a few seconds. That's it....easy peesy!!!

All good with the phone now!!
