What do you have set as your search engine in Safari/Preferences/Search?

Try going to Safari/Preferences/Extensions and disable all extensions. Quit Safari, reopen, and see if the website will now load with your desired search engine. If so, enable extensions one or two at a time until you find which extension is causing the problem.

thank you..even though nothing was listed under extensions I still turned it to off. But that didn't solve the problem but I did go from the extension tab to general tab  and confirmed that my search engine is still Google but the next 3 choices listed were: new window open with:   And new tabs open with:   And homepage: this is where the yahoo search address was listed so I deleted and then switch the first 2 to open with Top sites which is what I was set with to begin with and I prefer!
