Sep 26, 2016 8:35 AM in response to MinSanDiegoby Ralph9430,There is a light sensor located with the front facing camera. Block the sensor and the iMac adjusts brightness lower automatically. If you really feel it is necessary to block the camera try turning off the Automatically Adjust Brightness feature in System Preferences.
System Preferences > Displays > Uncheck "Automatically adjust brightness"

Sep 28, 2016 7:15 PM in response to MinSanDiegoby macfrombrampton,If yo look closely at the front facing camera you will see the camera and a photo cell which detects light. It is very close to the camera lens and is used to detect light levels for the lighted keyboard and to adjust the screen brightness.
This is the case with my Macbook Pro. If you place the sticky over the camera and not the photo cell your screen should not dim.
