Q: How to select a portion of message in macOS Sierra?

In previous versions of OSX I was able to select a part of message (text / iMessage) in the Messages app. Now, if I try to do the same, Tapback gets activated. It's really annoying as I frequently have to copy full message body, paste in some editor and then do the editing.

That shouldn't occur if you merely select message text by double-clicking or click-drag. That action works the same way it always has.

Tapback will occur if you press and hold – in other words if don't move the cursor quickly enough.

If you still can't get it to work please examine your Trackpad preferences. Perhaps changing an arbitrary setting will correct what you are experiencing. Check Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad in the same manner: change a setting to determine if that corrects it.

    No, apparently it doesn't

    • Triple-clicking the message selects it whole body
    • Double-clicking does nothing
    • Single-clicking selects the whole body with a delay, like triple-click.

The same applies to my mouse and trackpad.

Shut down your Mac and restart it in "Safe Mode". To learn how to do that please read: Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up. Determine if the same problem occurs in "Safe Mode", or not.

It did work in Safe Mode and now it also works in regular mode as well. Thank you very much
