Q: Chrome does appear in Applications

When I download Chrome for OS x, the googlechrome.dmg is properly downloaded.  When I double click on the icon, it apparently installs and then takes me to the Application page, but it is not listed.  It is nowhere to be found.

Mystified!

Double-click the dmg and then either launch Chrome from there or drag it to the Applications folder. Double-clicking an alias to the Applications folder from the disk image won't install anything.

    Neil -

Thank you!  It worked when I dragged the Chrome icon into the Applications folder.  If you have the time, I have some questions since this is my first Apple computer (thanks to client who gave me his 2009 iMac 27" -- I'm software/database developer from the other world).  I do run a Linux server for testing my web apps, so I may have some understanding conceptually of what OS X does, but little vocabulary.

I understand that double-clicking the DMG file mounts it as a virtual disk, however I'm not sure what the window is called that is created by the double-clicking.  Is that a pointer (alias) to the installer in the mounted virtual disk?
