Q: My Calculator not saving last number upon quit

I have been using the Calculator that comes with OS X to keep my checkbook balanced for a few years. In System Preferences/General, I do not have the "Close windows when quitting an app" checked. This should let me open Calculator with the last number still saved. It has in the past, but since upgrading to Mac os Sierra, Calculator no longer saves what I had (except on the tape). Is there something I can do to get that feature back?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

I can verify your results although I don't remember if it saved the last number previously. I don't know if it is a function change or a bug etc. but I think it's something Apple would have to change. You could install PCalc from the App Store. It's not free but it does much more.

I just found out if you add Calculator to the Notification Center it does retain the last number there.

Thanks for that tip. I might just use the Notifications calculator until the other one can remember the numbers I last used. Although, it is handy having the "paper tape" in case you need to go back to find a mistake.
