Q: app store macos sierra download button not active
I tried downloading MacOS Sierra 5 times. The first 3 times the download never went to install. I'm guessing the download didn't complete. All the downloads were running almost 2 hours or more. After the 4th download, the computer had shutdown. When I booted up, I got a download circle and pinwheel. I actually let it run overnight and it never completed. No, when I try to download, the download button is grayed out. I connected the MacBook Pro directly to the router with an ether net cable. The button is stilled grayed out. The MacBook Pro is 2012 8GB memory and 550GB of storage. It's running OSX 10.11.6. Does anyone have any idea of what's going on?
Windows Vista

Thx for the reply. Actually, the suggestion to check applications is what I needed. I'm a geek and feel stupid not thinking of something that simple. When I checked on Sierra, all the help said it would be simple. NOT! The normal Apple instruction of download and follow on screen instructions wasn't enough this time. The download issues were probably an overloaded server. The automatic start issue? But, double clicking the install app did the trick. Thx to all for the help.
