Q: 10.0.1 battery drainage issue

Hello ALL.

Wanted to put this out here in HOPES that someone high up in the Apple tree (Corp.) would read this and relay the bad worm issue on the newest iOS update 10.0.1

I'm not new to Apple products nor the iOS, in fact I stood in line for hours to get my hands on the iPhone 3, then the iPhone 4, and the iPhone 5, of course iPhone 6+, and now the iPhone 7 (not the + model...oh how I loath the pre-order sales tactic). Oh, and I've had almost every single iPad model and mini to date, with my newest bad boy the iPad Pro 12.9

I only mention this to let you know I'm used to the iOS infrastructure and it's updates.

Okay...how do I know it's the iOS and not something else, easy... I bought 2 iPhone 7's on launch day. The first one I restored from a backup on my computer through iTunes, which had the latest iOS at that point 9.3.5 and during this restore point I was asked to update to the 10.0.1 update and I did. The other iPhone 7, I didn't have to use a backup and it came pre-loaded with iOS 10.0.0 already installed. So, I have a good comparison to go off of.

Now that I've had the new phones for 2 solid days, their battery usage is completely different. Yes, they have the same settings. Again...this isn't my first rodeo. (I've check the battery usage apps, location services is off, etc, etc.)

The 2nd iPhone 7 running 10.0.0 doing the same task; messaging, emails, and some phone calls was holding about 95% and my 1st iPhone was at 80% (WTH!!)

What really nailed the coffin shut, was when I updated my iPad Pro from 9.3.5 to 10.0.1 and it too started losing battery life almost twice as fast as it was before. Same apps were running as before, no other changes were made.

So, this is when I absolutely knew it was the newest iOS 10.0.1 that is behind the battery drainage issue.

Hello Apple...please fix this soon.

I am experiencing same issues... Not as severe but something feels like its draining the battery... I also have a ton of JetSam Events.. this is on my iPhone 7 running 10.0.2 (Latest Version).. I thought that I narrowed it down to Safari iCloud Sync or Content Blocker in Safari (1blocker)... I am not so sure anymore... I have now reset to factory settings. and still doesn't feel right... not sure :-(

sberman- since you're a Level 8 contributor, in your opinion, do you think or have you heard that there maybe some defective iPhone 7's out there?

There are few iPhone 7 owners that aren't experiencing these issues...like my sons iPhone 7. He just rubs it in my face that his battery is doing great, and he's playing games and doing social apps as well.

****...I can simply do a few imessages and I'll lose 2% battery life. Just messing with the settings I'll lose a few % as well. On a phone call it will drop fast as well. This isn't good for me considering I run my own business and my iPhone is my main phone.

Thank you sir for any input that you could provide.

Yes.  There will be a few defective machines in any huge production batch such as Apple provides.  But the number is extremely small.

See ChrisJ4203's response above, with which I completely agree.

I'm having similar issues. Mine jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

Did notice my phone is also getting hot.

Mine also jumps up in the charge percentage instantly. Yesterday I noticed that I was down to 56% and just decided to plug it in and instantly it was at 63% as soon as the cable got seated. I am also still experiencing the heating up but my drainage is getting better as time passes.
