Q: Why does Image Capture crash when importing with Sierra?

Image capture always crashes now with Sierra.  It crashes when importing from my iPhone 6S and also when importing from my card reader.  Also, if the Delete After Importing option is checked, it will delete the photos without importing the photos (before it crashes).  What is the problem?

    Hi, Morgan Britt!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Your post indicates the Image Capture is quitting unexpectedly when you try to import pictures from your iPhone or an SD card. I manage my own pictures using my Mac, so I know it's important for Image Capture to be working as expected. I'd be happy to help!

There could be several reasons the app is quitting unexpectedly, and I have some troubleshooting I can recommend to help figure out what it is, and fix it. try these steps, in order, testing Image Capture after each step.
    1. Quit Image Capture, then re-open it while holding Shift.

    2. Restart your Mac by clicking the Apple  menu and selecting Restart... from the drop down.

    3. Try the import in safe mode. The following article will explains safe mode in more detail, including how to boot to it.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up

Even though the article isn't exactly specific to your issue, it's still a good step to try. Safe mode will run a scan of your system during boot, and disable certain software and processes that could be causing a conflict.

    4. Test Image Capture in another user account. You can get information on how this step can be helpful, and instructions on creating a new user account, in the article linked below.

    Cheers!
