Q: Top sites is gone after safari and Sierra update

I have been using the Top Sites functions and page for many years and I love the functions. However, I found out that the Top Sites function seems to be gone after my Sierra and Safari Update. I can only have Favourite site with small square icons displayed now whenever I press theTop Sit Buttons and All the Top sits options in the Safari Setting is gone? Is it the case that the new Safari Update has terminate the top site function and options?

MacBook, macOS Sierra (10.12)

    Try Safari/Bookmarks/Show Top Sites.

This option is only available if you are not already showing favourites. Basically the Top Sites/Favourites management in Safari 10 has gone completely to pot. It begs the age old question of why nobody spots these things during the months of "beta testing"!!!

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

I have the same problem even though I have my preferences set to open new window and new tabs with Top Sites. In addition, I notice that under Bookmarks, it is always checked on Favorites. there is no way to uncheck it.

    Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

    Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
