Q: I cloud need to change my email address

I get a pop up from Apple Id verification  telling me I cloud  cannot connect on my mac pro.   It has my old email address as my apple id  and it won't let me change it. It is all greyed out. If I try to sign out it tells me my info will be deleted from my Mac. Message is Quote:  This Mac can’t connect to iCloud because of a problem with “bxxx.xx@mail.com

It say's to  enter my password for "the old address mail.com" in settings.  But  there is nowhere in setting to change my email address.

It also tells me to  click on Icloud preferences  which won't let me do anything there either.  I have successfully changed my Apple Id  email address and passwords for itunes and Apps but can't change it for icloud on my Mac Pro.

However i can get and send messages in I cloud on my I pad and Iphone.

I understand you changed your email address, but did you change your Apple ID?

Changing your Apple ID is described here: Change your Apple ID - Apple Support. As long as you did that, you can sign out of iCloud on your Mac Pro, and subsequently sign in again using the new Apple ID.

If you created a new Apple ID, it will forever remain separate from the other one.

First of all yes I did change my Apple Id.   Both email address and password are new.

I don't understand the last sentence.  When I  changed my apple id, email address And password I had no problem using  the new one  in apps and itunes.   I understand it will remain separate.   but why do you say from the other one? Isn't that understood?

I did try to sign in with the old id (old email address) and old password on  the pop up and I get the message I sent.

Secondly I went to my account (with my new Apple Id ) and went to "edit" but I was afraid to change my Apple Id email address back to the old on (mail.com). Is that what you are telling me to do?    And then change it back again to the new one I changed it to.  Will it let me do that or will I have to start all over again with a whole new ID and password. And then I do  have to go to itunes and apps to make the changes again there?.  Thank You for your help I am a novice at this.

I understand how frustrating it can be to manage your Apple ID, since it is used for just about everything you do with your Apple products. If your Apple ID doesn't work, nothing works.

Before we go any further, it might be best for you to contact Apple ID Support because fixing Apple ID problems might require that you verify personal information that you must never post on this site (or any other). Apple has ways of verifying your identity that only they know. So if you don't get anywhere or don't want to spend too much time given the limitations of this support site's back-and-forth question and answer nature, start here: http://appleid.apple.com.

Sign in with your Apple ID credentials, verify the information under Security and Devices, and verify all the information is correct.

If everything on those pages appears to be correct, I suggest you continue with this site: Apple ID - Official Apple Support. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you will find a button labeled "Get Support" beneath the heading "Help me with Apple ID". Click it. That will load a page with the heading "What’s happening with your Apple ID".

The choice most applicable to your concern is "Other Apple ID Topics" which will lead to more options. One of them will lead to contacting Apple directly, and speaking with someone who can help. Let them sort things out. Be patient with them, since your Apple ID is literally the key to your account security and they will need to positively establish your identity before fixing whatever is wrong.

If you want to continue troubleshooting on your own, please read on:

I don't understand the last sentence.

I asked that question only because I wanted to confirm that you did not create a new Apple ID, which would be as separate from the "old" one as yours is from mine. Provided you did not do that, you can simply "sign out" of all the services that requires an Apple ID including System Preferences > iCloud, and then "sign in" again with your updated email address and password.

Secondly I went to my account (with my new Apple Id ) and went to "edit"

Where did you do that? On your Apple ID Account Page (https://appleid.apple.com/) or somewhere else?
