Q: Configure OS X Server on LAN to map to external IP address... how?
Running Server 5.1.7 on OS X 10.11.6
My server sits behind a router that serves multiple LANs. The server is assigned a local IP by the router (192.168.1.10) and this IP is put in a DMZ mapped to the server's public (fixed) IP address. I have checked and the router maps traffic on the public IP address to the local network IP address, and seems to do this without problem.
The server host name is set to match the DNS entry associated with the public IP address.
My question is what (if any) DNS settings I need on the server to have it respond correctly in this configuration - specifically, do I need to set up a local DNS record within the Server app settings with the public IP address in it? There are no locally connected clients, so I am wondering if I need DNS enabled at all?
Also, do these answers change if I enable IPv6 addressing for the server?
Thanks a lot for any guidance.

If someone in the world is running your DNS service, and pointing to your router IP address for a given host name, then you do not need to run a DNS service too.
