Q: Tool Bar issues

I have a few issues with the toolbar settings on both my iMac and the MacBook Pro. First of all, when I click the box with arrow pointing up (extreme right) to add a bookmark, the link used to be saved in the bookmarks. Now it jumps immediately to the main tool bar on my iMac but saves it in Bookmarks on the MacBook Pro!

Also, since having re-installed a new HD on the MacBook Pro after an issue following an update, I have somehow got this bar (shown on the lower part of the image) which is a 'close bar or closed bar' and can't get rid of it at all.

Any ideas please?

    Update: Today when I click on the icon, top right, it is now indicating "save to Favourites" but still appearing on the toolbar.

    I have the impression that you are refering to the Safari toolbar. You can change the toolbar with Safari->View->Customise Toolbar.

    The arrow in the square is for "sharing".

    First, when clicking the button with up arrow and choosing "Add Bookmark", you should get a menu like this:

    Screen Shot 2016-09-27 at 11.21.26.png

    The first menu in the image lets you choose where to save the bookmark.

    It appears that it appears by default with a different option in each of your macs; just change that choice according to your wishes. It will show you whatever you chose last time you did this, so change it and it will stick.

    Second, what I see at the bottom of your image is the tab bar. You now have one tab open in that window, showing "Home - BBC news". That is quite normal, don't worry. I believe some time ago there was an option not to show that bar when there was only one tab in the window, but I can't find it.

    Hi Luis - and thank you for your response.

    Yes, I am referring to the Safari toolbar. On my iMac, when I click to save to my favourites it is not going into my favourites but along the top of my toolbar with links I have saved. I can, however, frag it and drop into my Bookmarks/Favourites. Yet, on my wife's MacBook Pro it is going directly into the Favourites.

    Not a major issue I suppose but that image bar, tab showing BBC News, is annoying. If you can find the option not to show it that would be rather good!

    I found it!

    View->Hide Tab Bar

    This will work just so long as you have only one tab in the window, of course.

    I almost always have several tabs per window (and multiple windows) at any given time, so this is something that I didn't give much thought about.

    The the links at the top of your toolbar ARE your Favorites!!!

    If you don't want to see that, again it is simple:

           View->Hide Favorites Bar

    Hi Luis,

    My apologies for the slight delay in replying.

    My MacBookPro has been 'away' for a short while getting some software installed and just got it back an hour ago.

    One of the first things I did was follow your View>Hide Tab Bar and I am in business!

    Spot on, thank you!
