Q: Find My Iphone

My new Iphone 7 was recently stolen. It was fully charged and locked. Within 10 minutes of it being stolen i went on Icloud to "Find My Iphone". The thief had turned my Iphone off so it could not be tracked. So my question to Apple is this: Why not require the Iphone to be unlocked in order to power it off(or at least make it an owner option in Settings)?

This feature would have allowed me and/or the police to track down and recover my Iphone.

This feature would discourage theft and encourage the return of lost Iphones that are found.

My Iphone was insured through Apple. It would reduce insurance claims paid by Apple for lost and stolen phones.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.0.2

If you do a search of the forum here, there have been multiple discussions about this. If it was something Apple would do, it would have been done by now. However, many of the troubleshooting steps include powering the device off/on when it cannot be accessed, which means a passcode could not be entered. Even so, powering off is the least of the issues with stolen devices, it can be defeated any number of ways, such as removing the SIM or wrapping with aluminum foil, etc.

You are not speaking to Apple here. This is a user to user support forum. If you wish to tell Apple about your thoughts, you need to use their feedback link here, http://www.apple.com/feedback

Apple does not insure devices, you must have insured it through a separate vendor.
