Q: ow do  stop my computer from flipping from my current ID to my original ID when all apps and updates were purchased after I changed to my new ID? I can't update any of my apps?

I can't download, activate or update ANY apps all were bought using my current ID. I stopped using my original ID 2 yrs. ago, but whenever I attempt to download updates, the older ID flips in. This is my third attempt to get my question answered and I cannot access Apple CHAT because I can't speak.

Any purchases made on your old ID still require the password for that old ID in order to update the apps.

Similarly, any apps that you buy using your "new" ID will only update if you use the new ID's password.

Apps and other purchases are linked to Apple IDs, not to the computers on which they reside.  So in order to update or download items, you must use the Apple ID that was used to purchase the item.  There is no way to merge accounts or transfer purchases.  There isn't a whole lot you can do now.  Instead of creating the newer Apple ID, the correct option would have been to replace the existing email address tied to your old Apple ID with the newer email address.

Since you now have two Apple IDs, you will have to use both to update apps unless you buy the apps again using your newer Apple ID.

I understand how the ID system works. My problem is ALL MY APPS WERE PURCHASED ON MY NEW ID. SO WHY DOES THE OLD ID FLIP IN ?  THERE IS ONE DIGIT DIFFERENCE IN BOTH ID'S  .  The old ID is: **********.  My current ID is *************.  It's been so long since I've used it I don't know the password. When the security question: What was the name of your best friend:- it's Doris but that name isn't recognized. I'll give the old ID a try.

My frustration is that neither Gmail says my original email isn't owned by me.  Apple won't let me change my first

ID as my ID.  The ID that is my ID is marnie.barno@gmail.com.  NOW WHAT?

I guess I will have to buy the apps with my current ID.  Thank you.

It will only show the old ID if an app tied to that ID needs an update. Similarly, if your computer is tied to your old ID (such as when you first bought the computer) it will require that old ID for preinstalled app updates.
