Q: Restore from iCloud to a newer version iPhone
I just got a replacement phone. It's an iPhone 5S. I backed up my old iPhone 5 to iCloud this morning.
Now I'm trying to restore my apps, settings, photos, etc to the new device, but iCloud says no backup is available.
Can't I restore my files, etc to a newer iPhone? That doesn't seem right.
If I backup from iTunes, can I then restore from iCloud?

Yes. Set the phone up as a new phone, that will allow to upgrade to iOS 10.x. Then you can go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings, and that will allow you to restore the device to your latest iCloud backup. For extra information about restoring the iCloud backup, you can see the instructions in this support document. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
