Q: can't select wifi for network type anymore.

So my Apple TV 4 has worked fine. used to have it plugged into ethernet but have also used it just fine with wifi.

Got a new Samsung TV so I put the ethernet from my apple TV directly into the TV, planning to use the ATV with wifi. I have my ATV plugged into my samsung TV through their device box.

Now the only option I get for network is ethernet. there is no option to select wifi for network and I even reset my apple tv and still cannot get wifi to come up.

I'm wondering if this is because my ATV is plugged into the samsung and the samsung tv is trying to use the ethernet settings i have through the tv?

Hi. If I understand you, Apple TV is connected to the TV by HDMI, with no ethernet connection. But the TV does have an ethernet connection. The way tvOS works, the normal network connection is WiFi. If an ethernet connection is detected, that overrides the WiFi, and you can only use ethernet. You cannot pick one or the other. Your new TV may be providing ethernet over the HDMI cable. It's called HEC. You've probably seen this capability marked on cables and thought that you'd never actually use it. Try removing the ethernet connection from the TV and see if ATV returns to WiFi. Your TV may offer a setting to enable this feature.

Hmmm, even though there's no ethernet connection. Have you power cycled or rebooted the Apple TV?
