Q: Unable to access Applications

Started at a seemingly random moment... nothing special, no reboot, just checking for updates. I can no longer access the Applications (even the icon is "faded" and has a circle w/line through it). I get the following error messages.

There is no application set to open the URL macappstore://showUpdatesPage?scan=true.

There is no application set to open the URL macappstores://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?mt=12&ls=1&ign -msr=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.appl

Any IDEA on why or perhaps mor importantly HOW

    Hi,

A Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that may help.

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Then check for updates at the App Store.
