Q: Reminders badge stuck at one event

I have this weird issue with reminders app on my macOS Sierra (16A323). It always show 1 missed event count on the red badge on the app icon in the dock, but I don't have any events there at all. I cleaned up the list. I tried to view through hidden events, find something with the search box, look for past due events, use automator to delete all reminders - nothing seems to be working. I must say that I don't see any reminders on my iPhone either, and no badge there. It seems like this badge stuck only on my MacBook, even though all my devices are synchronized through iCloud. One more interesting thing. Recently I made clean install of macOS Sierra, and the badge is still there. So I suppose it not a cache or dock related issue. When I disable iCloud in Reminders accounts - badge is going away, but it's coming back after I enable account again.

I had pretty similar issue with my Calendar app on Mac. It was related with Family Sharing. We disabled family sharing, and there were a note about that in Calendar, it was kinda hard to find it, and because of it badge was shown on the Calendar app icon in the dock. When I deleted that notification - badge was gone. And I suppose, badge on Reminders appeared after I disabled family sharing as well.

Does anyone had the same issue? I mean it's not critical, but this badge is driving me crazy because I always think that I might have missed something from Reminders list. And googling for it gives no results with effective solutions.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12), null

    Hey there, thiaramus,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities!

I see that the Reminders app always shows one badged missed event on the Dock, even though you don't have any events there at all. I know how important it is to make sure that you don't have any reminders showing if there are none. I can assist you with this.

You have done some great troubleshooting so far. What I would like you to try now is to test this issue in a new user account. Please see the following resource for testing an issue in another user account on your Mac: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Once you have logged into the new user, please log into iCloud, and make sure that Reminders is enabled. Then, see if you get the same badge icon.

    Cheers!

    Hey there,

I did what you suggested, I created new user account, and before I added iCloud account to it there were no badge, just as if I removed iCloud account from my own user account. As soon as I added iCloud account - badge reappeared. There is "something" in the cloud, that's for sure. As I told before, I did clean macOS install, so it was even more powerful "reset" than creating new user account

    Thanks.

    Hello thiaramus,

Thank you for testing in a new user account. We have something else that we would like you to try.

Please log into the iCloud website and see if the badge icon on the Reminders app is there. If it is, see if you can clear it, and then check to make sure that it has been removed on your MacBook.

You can access the iCloud website here:
    Sign in to iCloud

    All the best.

    Hey Norm,

Sorry, I forgot to mention this in my first post. Trying to find "ghost" Reminder from the iCloud.com was the second thing I've tried. There is no badge and no reminders.

    Thank you

    Dear Community Speacialist,

I have the same issue since yesterday when I updated to macOS Sierra. I did all the troubleshooting steps you suggested above and nothing worked. I guess it's a global issue since I have other friends who are experiencing it.

Also, on the iCloud website ( www.icloud.com ) I don't see a badge on my Reminders app. It's only on my local iMac machine.

    With best regards,

    MalamiR
