We will assist you from here.
Kindly be advised that akk if the software mentioned on your previous email has been discontinued and has been replaced with a newer version. However we would advised that all of our software is still not fully compatible with the new El Capitan OS. We are still in the mist of updating the software to be compatible with El Capitan OS. We apologies for the inconvenience. You may still use these software and you may download it from the link provided below:
ViewNX-i

Thank you once again for your support on Nikon Products. We hope that we have addressed your concerns.
Please feel free to contact us for more information.
SO let's hope they don't take too long to update the new software. Bit of a disappointment for a multinational producer to be so slow in doing these upgrades
Oh well... we wait... in hope...

Dec 29, 2015 4:18 AM in response to Grassy1979by Berge008,Nikon Transfer 2 still doesn't work so I created a workflow in Automator to perform the job. Such a workflow can be saved and re-used when needed. Its a little bit more work when compared to how it was when Nikon Transfer functioned but is does the job. The only drawback is that direct import from a camera doesn't work only SD cards are recognised.
Making a workflow is relatively easy; after opening Automator (/applications/automator) in the right panel 3 steps are created
1. Get Specific Finder Items allows the selection of the pictures on the SD card.
2. Move Finder Items the pictures are moved to the directory where you want to store the photos
3. Rename Finder Items: Add Text allows batch renaming of the pictures in the directory where they where moved.
Make sure to save the workflow for future downloads.

Jan 27, 2016 5:29 PM in response to richleby plimpy,I think its a bit unfair to say nikon, qantas etc are slow to update their programs. Their programs worked fine and then apple reconfigures things so that only apple programs will work. its apple who are being deliberately obstructive. i can't go a day without being told to update my software and when i do none of my programs that were working fine will now function. its disappointing that a company with such a monopoly that makes so much money can't be a little more considerate and helpful to its customers!

Feb 2, 2016 4:24 PM in response to Grassy1979by xposela,It's the cable.. He's Dead Jim. I really tried everything else to save me from a plunge into the cable grave yard.. That worked also there is always a reason to leave a -2 gen mac lying around and spinning. This to validate it's not drivers etc..

Apr 5, 2016 3:34 PM in response to Vincent Marksby rjgogo,Sorry to bring up an old thread but I wanted to clarify some stuff on this as this has been bothering me for a while and this is the first post that comes up every time I try to fix it. Success today.
The image capture app is the right place to start but to get it to work with Nikon Transfer 2 you need to take a couple more steps.
First, Go to the Nikon page and download View NXi. I read it had a newer version of Transfer 2 that is compatible with el capitan.
After you install that, go back to the Image Capture app and click on that tiny button on the lower left hand side and it will give you the option to change what happens when you connect a camera or SD card. Select other and point it to the nikon folder in you apps folder. click that and then click the View NXi and then click the new Nikon Transfer 2 app. That did the trick for me.
This really messed up my work flow as I use the nikon transfer to change the file names I have been using for years. I had to download to an older computer and then sneaker net them with a usb to my computer.

Apr 7, 2016 4:02 AM in response to rjgogoby richle,Aha! Hoorah! rjgog! Thanks for raising this old post.
You've saved me the trouble of learning all these crazy extra bits of extra software i didn't need. All i wanted was my old Nikon transfer back to just rename files in my old naming convention, and this DOES IT! At last!
What's more, it seems that once you've opened it in View NXi (or maybe even without the need to do that), you can jump into the Nikon folder and drag the Nikon transfer 2 software to the dock, and get rid of all those other superfluous apps.
Ah. Big sigh of relief.
Life returns to as it was 6months ago when i could name my image files the way i like it to keep life organised!

Sep 27, 2016 1:13 PM in response to Grassy1979by bugsoft,I just upgraded to El Capitan recently and discovered that while I could open Nikon Transfer 2, it would not see any of the photos on my iPhoneSE. I noticed that the Photos application would start up whenever I connected my iPhone so I went through the "first time" process in Photos and eventually got to the point where it wanted to import my photos. The first issue is that Photos didn't see the iPhone photos until I unlocked the iPhone (must be a new security feature). I was then able to import the iPhone photos into Photos (leaving the originals on the iPhone). I then selected my iPhone in the sidebar and unchecked the box "Open Photos for this device". I then unplugged my iPhone and plugged it back and the photos then appeared in Nikon Transfer 2. I suspect that when you check "Open Photos for this device" in Photos, that prevents any other program like Nikon Transfer 2 from seeing the photos on the device. Sidenote: I had Nikon Transfer 2 installed before upgrading to El Capitan so I didn't have any problems installing the Nikon software.
