Q: why does install java 8.0 popup keep reappearing in Mac OS

Since upgrading to MacOS Sierra, this annoying popup keeps reappearing after I dismiss it with OK; as far as I know, I don't need it.

When I click more info, I am taken to a Java installation page where info says Apple has disabled it.

What to do? What to do?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Something on your system is trying to run "java". Eliminate that "something" and all should be well. Checking the console (apps -> utilities) log files may help you track down the annoying "something".

Trevoz - thanks. Sounds promising. This problem cropped up only after installing MacOS Sierra. I've looked through Console, searching for Java, and coming up with nothing. I had to turn off Safari extension Click to Flash so I could view YouTube videos in Safari - no problem in Chrome, by the way. Flash and Java both Adobe. Any clue there? I'll wait until the message pops up again and check Console to see if I can tell what happened just before it appears, as you suggested.

Any other thoughts about what might be calling for Java? I also have been using another Adobe product, Acrobat Reader, in case that helps.

    Thanks ahead,

Generally it is Adobe Apps that insist upon using Apple's Legacy Java 6.

It showed up after the upgrade because Apple removes Java during the upgrade as it is way out of date. You'll have to reinstall it, if it still works in Sierra. Download Java for OS X 2015-001

If they have updated their software, it might be able to run the current Java 8 from Oracle, if you install the JDK.
