Sep 27, 2016 1:49 PM in response to bryanbshocby Edgar,What do you mean with "faint"? Red R on gray button, instead of white R on red button? That appears when a Track is selected. It automatically switches to Record Enable without clicking the R button.
Of course, you have to click the Input Monitoring Button, how else would Logic know which Track you want to listen to its Input. If you want to solo a Track, you also have to click on that specific Solo Button.
You know that you can also click the Recordn Enabled button (R) to listen to this Tracks input.
You can create an Input Channel Strip in the Environment. That lets you listen to a specific input channel of your Audio Interface without the need of clicking an I button (which it does have).
Hope that helps

Sep 27, 2016 2:25 PM in response to Edgarby bryanbshoc,Thank you! So when I select a track, it automatically puts the pink R on gray button which means it's record enabled, correct... therefore I can press R on my keyboard and it will begin recording on that track... so what is the purpose in clicking the "R" and making the button Red with White R on it?
Also, since my last post, I have learned that I can click the "I" on all of my tracks, and then once I select one, it will automatically open the input signal for me to be able to hear it... am I correct in this?
Thanks again!

It is a little bit more complicated than that:
Automatic Record Enable
One function of the "Pink R" is that it record enables a Track so you don't have to press the Record Enable Button to record. You are right, just select the Track and hit record. However, that works only for single Tracks. If you want to record on multiple Tracks, then you have to use the Record Enable Button to "arm" those Tracks. Also, when you use the Record Mode "Record/Record Toggle", it only works with Record Enabled (red R) Tracks. But this could be a bug.
Instrument Track "Sleep" Mode
You might have noticed that on Instrument Tracks, the Record Enable Button is only available on the Track Header, but not on the Channel Strip. The reason might be that the Record Enable Button has an additional function. It indicates if the Software Instrument is "at sleep". After a while of no activity, those Software Instrument Plugin have to be woken up ( different topic for another time) and the Record Enable Button indicates that status. Pink means "sleep", red means "active. You can try that by selecting different Instrument Tracks, when you send any MIDI Event on one Track (tap on the sustain pedal), then the button on that Track turns red.

I wouldn't recommend that, because when you enable Input Monitoring on all Tracks, you will hear all those inputs. The result depends on what Tracks and what Input Selection you have on those Tracks. It sounds like a mess and I wouldn't do that. As I said before, just select the Track and it will switch to Record Enable, routing the input to the output (same effect).
BTW, please note that there is a special Preference checkbox that affects the behavior of the Input Monitoring Button. Here is an expert from my book "Logic Pro X - Tips, Trick, Secrets #1" where I explain that functionality.
Hope that helps
