Q: Severe battery usage after iOs 10.0.2

hello.

i have an iPhone 6 since January this year.

updated to iOS 10 the same day it was released.

and updated to 10.0.2 last night (less than 24 hours ago).

after 10.0.2, for the first time since i bought the iPhone, i went to sleep with 70% battery capacity and woke up this morning (7 hours later) with only 9% battery capacity. usually in the same conditions i wake up with 60% or 55% battery.

additional info:

- no apps running (all on background).

- no demanding apps opened (only Safari, Weather, Battery, Whatsapp, Contacts).

- everything was the same way as it has been in the last 9 months since i bought and started using the iPhone.

anyone with the same problem?

SInce I updated yesterday, battery drain has been massive.  Started a walk with 51% battery, and phone shut off after only 15 minutes.

    10.0.1 wasn't as bad.

    10.0.1 truly wasn't that bad.

Try to go to settings and turn off background app refresh.

IF you go into Preferences -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services you will see a culprit (if you have the Status Bar option enabled). The Compas calibration and Location based alerts constantly activate and deactivate. This

is on a brand new iPhone 7 that got great battery life on 10.0.1 - I usually got by for 48 hours between charges with moderate use (a few hrs web surfing and using 3rd party messaging). Even with the above workarounds i am watching my battery meter drop 3 percent as i type this. I did an OTA ipdate. I will be heading home to downgrade ipsw. I just lost confidence in Apples software QA. Apple staff who may read this, if you are going to nag us with daily OTA updates can you please do more extensive testing before pushing out minor point releases? This one really put a huge hole in my battery life and confidence in Apple quality.

Results - Using latest iTunes I did a "Backup" and "Restore Backup". The battery drain and accompanying Loc.Svcs (Compass Calibration excessive running) vanish for about 10 mins after the Restore (on same 10.0.2).

So then I used "Restore iPhone" with shift-click (windows) and restored 10.0.1.  Its been 12hrs and no excessive Location Service activity and battery percentage has gone back to excellent.  I am not sure the root cause and don't have  another four hours to waste.

it will be a long time before I trust Apple iOS updates and will leave it in. 10.0.1..

Thanks for that - I seem to be having similar issues with my iPhone 7. The past two nights I have gone to bed with the phone around 80% charge and woken up with it completely dead.

I've tested it further today and am consistently getting around 6% battery drain per 30 minutes, even testing with location services off and/or background app refresh off. This is without me using the phone at all during the testing.

I hope Apple is aware of this issue as it is a pretty big one...

i already reported to Apple the "no battery after a simple night of sleep" situation via the Apple Feedback online form.

this problem did not happen with me anymore.

however, after 10.0.2, the battery drains faster and takes longer to fill up.

i urge everybody to give Apple feedback about the fast drain/slow charge that the new iOS is imposing on users.

ToniHarm, can we still downgrade today? October 6th. Is Apple still allowing us to do it?

I noticed the same thing as weeasle: Compas calibration and Location based alerts are constantly active. They always have the violet arrow after 10.0.2.

Not only battery drains fast. My iPhone 6s turns off with 40% battery and asks for usb charge if I try to turn it on.

I forced restart without results. Last night I decided to totally reset the iPhone as new and restore from iCloud backup. After 14 hours, battery is at 50% with normal use. It can mean two things: either the problem is resolved, or my iPhone will turn off when battery reaches 40%. I hope the first answer is the correct one.

Same problem here, IPhone 6 / IOS 10.02  Went to the Apple Store today, cause I thought that need to replace my battery. But the diagnostic said "Battery Capacity 88%" , so we set it up as a new IPhone.  But now, 8 hours later I can say: it didn't help!

I have asked in another thread if we can still downgrade to 9.3.5 and I received the answer that yes, Apple still allows it (most likely they know how messed up ios 10.0.2 is). I am going to downgrade this evening. The battery drain is becoming ridiculous and I have no patience to wait for Apple to fix it.
