Servers EnterpriseYou are not really being clear about what Mac you have, but you would probably be able to update to 10.7/10.8 (Lion/Mountain Lion) at least, and perhaps as high as 10.11 (El Capitan). If you look on a site like Every Mac you can look up your serial number and specs, it should tell you what the maximum system is that you can run: http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/

Servers EnterpriseThank you very much for this advice, I will do as suggested. I'm not sure how else I should have described the Mac I have - apologies.

Servers EnterpriseNo worries, it's just that what you have described could be an iMac, mini, MacPro, Xserve, MacBook or MacBook Pro (ok, someone will pull me up on it and say "they never made a 2.66GHz blah…"), so to give the right answer we need to know what model it is (support for later operating systems will also vary by year of introduction of the exact model - even if specs for some other model look almost identical).
