Q: Apple TV update to tvOS 10.0 breaks video playback

Hi, y'all,

I just updated my Apple TV (4th Generation) to tvOS 10.0 and am no longer able to playback some content from a Home Share(d) library which was encoded using Handbrake from HD sources. Previously, these videos played back with no problems, and now they do not.

The error given is the very ambiguous "An Error Occurred Loading This Content".

(a) Has anybody else experienced this problem?

(b) Has anybody found a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Thanks for the AppleTV pointer. At this point, I'm certain that it is a Sierra problem and not inherently a problem of the aTV since it affects iTunes, Finder and QuickTime Player. Some decoder got removed or whatever, so time to go dig into that.

You should tell your friend that ripping software and production software are entirely different animals.

    Winston,

My friend is well aware of the differences, as am I. His production software can produce any number of tracks for audio mixdowns with any codec under the sun, not all of which are supported by iTunes/Finder/QuickTime/etc. The big problem is that neither of us is enthralled with producing video content that one day works on his client's computer and the following day, post macOS update, does not, hence the necessity to ensure that content created will have longevity. He will be taking this discussion to the developers, though I thought I'd see if the community had any similar problems. Clearly, it does, but perhaps for different reasons.

    Thank you for your input,

    Bill

I think we both know the problem here.

Why, yes... yes, we do. I'm glad you've come to realize it, too.
