Sep 27, 2016 4:25 PM in response to waxhawsamby jameson.h,Hi waxhawsam,
Thanks for posting your question in the Apple Support Community! I understand you're having trouble getting your iMac to work with an IPv6 address. I'm happy to offer some direction.
IPv6 should be automatically configured by default, however you can take a look at the following article for more information:
Take care.

Sep 28, 2016 5:52 AM in response to jameson.hby waxhawsam,Thanks this is exactly how my iMac is setup, and my other Macs for that matter, Auto via DHCP for IPv4 and Auto for IPv6, still nothing. There has to be something wrong specifically with this machine.

Sep 28, 2016 6:12 AM in response to waxhawsamby norm123,Thanks for the update, waxhawsam! There are 2 additional steps you may want to try to see if we can isolate the issue further. The first step I recommend is to try starting up in safe mode. This will clear some caches and prevent some software from starting up that could be causing the issue you're experiencing.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up
If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode
If an issue doesn't happen when your Mac is started in safe mode, try restarting again without pressing any keys at startup. If the issue appears to be resolved when you start up normally, it was possibly caused by a cache or a directory issue with your startup disk that safe mode fixed.
If you restart your Mac normally and an issue comes back when you reach your desktop, try disabling any login items that automatically open when you log in.
You can also try setting up a test user account on your Mac to test this out. This can help determine if there is a user specific file that is causing the issue.

Sep 28, 2016 7:08 AM in response to norm123by waxhawsam,Thanks, tried both, no difference. My guess is there should be some command line tools I can use to see if it's requesting an address and not getting one.

Sep 28, 2016 7:44 AM in response to waxhawsamby norm123,Since you aren't seeing any change, you may want to try reinstalling OS X. This shouldn't erase any of your personal data, however you should make sure you have a backup of your Mac just to ensure your data is safe. You can find the information you'll need in the articles below.
