FYI,
Just because your iPad 3 is no longer able to upgrade to the latest iOS doesn't mean your iPad 3 is suddenly useless.
Your iPad 3 will work as it always has and the apps you have installed on it will continue to update and receive some level of app updates relevent to your current iOS.
The only reason I am posting this is if you really wanted to update your iPad hardware to something newer, you had plenty of time to do so before Apple decided to end its operating system life iOS 9.3.5.
You were, obviously, not in a hurry to spend money for a new iPad.
So, I put this rationale to you.
You have had four years of iOS upgrades and updates.
Your iPad 3 will still do everything it does now and you will, get, at least, another full year, perhaps two, if you decide to you want to wait longer to get a new or newer iPad model.
I just needed to put that out there for you.
Your iPad 3 is NOT suddenly obsolete.
You may want a new or newer iPad though, as you are aware, (and still would have happened with iOS 10) older iPad models get precious few new features of a new iOS upgrade.
So, a new or newer iPad maybe still be in your future.
FYI, new iPad models maybe around the corner soon, so you may want to wait a little longer to make a new iPad purchase until that time.
Good Luck to you!
