Q: iPhone 7 battery drain

Hi,

I've recently purchased iPhone 7 and setup with iOS 10.0.1, restoring my Apple ID using laptop from an iPhone 6 which was running iOS 10.0.1 also.

For the past 3 days my iPhone 7 battery has been draining really quickly meaning i'm having to charge my phone at least twice a day and i've been using the phone very sparingly. My behaviors have not changed from Iphone 6 (if anything i'm using apps less due to poor battery drain), but i'm finding the phone battery life to be far worse than my previous iPhone and not acceptable.

I don't use battery intensive apps much such as Music or Pokemon go etc and my highest Battery % drain for past 4 days has been Twitter at 27% then Mail at 16%. i do have location services on for apps whilst using but as i say my general phone behavior has not changed since iPhone 6 and im finding the 7 to be draining very quickly. it also appears to charge slower as well.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm certain I don't need to run the battery saving ideas that the call centre keep advising me to do.

Thanks

iPhone 7, iOS 10

    Hello almondo9,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how important it is to keep your device running as expected, and I'd like to help you with your battery life. If you have not done so already it's always a god idea to restart your phone after an update. If you already have and the battery is still running down rather quickly I'd recommend resetting the settings on your iPhone.

This will not delete anything from your phone. all of your apps, music and contacts will be safe. You may still wish to backup your settings data to iTunes or iCloud before doing this reset. This link will guide you through backing up if you choose to do so : How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

What this effectively does is to reset some of your settings to factory default. This does not remove any data like apps, photos or contacts, but It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Touch ID, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy, so we'll have to set those things back up after this reset.

To do this please go to Settings >  General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

If the behavior persists, or you run into any trouble, the entire community is here to help.
    Best Regards

    Norm123...

I've seen you comment to several on different threads on the iPhone Community.

Do you have the new iPhone 7 or 7+ and are you running the latest iOS 10.0.1 ? The reason I ask, is I am wanting to know if you are experiencing this same issue and this was your fix, or is this simply a standard protocol to battery drainage issues, or freezing of apps (this was your recommendation on another thread).

This battery drainage issue is a real booger, especially for those of us who run their business through their devices.

There is definitely an issue with the newest iOS. Apple is obviously aware because there's already a new BETA out, some of my friends are testing it out. I for one don't like to risk my devices to BETA testing.

Thanks for the replies both. At present i'm in the process of arranging an exchange with Apple as still in 14 days period from purchase.

Norm123 - I have restarted phone since install (a few times unfortunately!). I have reset all factory settings and restored from backup however I haven't reset all settings as yet as you advise. I have also just restored from backup via itunes over the top and still no improvement.

Ragenator - Not good news. I've arranged a replacement as a number of my friends have got the new iphone 7 but dont seem to be witnessing the battery drain issues im having so im hoping to see improvement on new handset!

I'm right there with almondo9... I too am thinking about returning my iPhone 7 for new one. I am too within my 14 days as well.

resetting to factory settings didn't help the battery issue.

I've had the battery problem with iOS 10.0.1, so i thought to try the 10.1 BETA.

Bad News: iOS 10.1 BETA does nothing to address this issue. Went from 100% battery to 16% in under 4 hours, with not more usage as absolutely necessary.

I hope this will be fixed... Otherwise Apple will get my phone back as well.

You also might want to check if your battery gets discharged while your phone is turned OFF.

Yesterday I had to shut my phone down because it kept getting warmer and warmer. When I did, the battery had 41% capacity left. The phone did not cool down while it was turned off. Roundabout two hours later it was impossible to power it up again - because the battery was completely empty.

    Hi,

Same issue as Almondo9 with my iPhone 7 (IOS 10.0.2). Moreover the battery drains even when the iphone is switched off : -14% in one night !!. Issue with battery level indicator or with the hw ? I will open a ticket to Apple support.

    Thanks.

Nothing so far... The iOS updates don't help, nor do the energy saving tips which the support people repeat over and over. Seems, that nobody knows what causes the problem.

Unfortunately I didn't get anywhere with sorting my battery issues out. Backup restore didn't work, neither did reset of settings or upgrade to 10.0.2. I've sent my handset back today In exchange for replacement which will hopefully have better battery unit. Resorted back to my iPhone 6 which seems like far superior battery power already in comparison!

almondo9 - did you get a new iPhone 7? If so, how's it going so far? Did you restore it from a backup (iTunes)?

I'm just wondering, because if that worked for you then I am taking mine back to the AT&T store for a another one too.

Please let me know asap. My 14 days is up the 30th.

    Thanks bud.

    Hi Ragenator,

yes tried the restore from backup twice and didn't work. Also upgraded too 10.0.2. Sent the handset back as nothing improved and waiting for my replacement to be sent out! Back on iPhone 6 for now!
