Q: iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

Both its was very erratic between 3G LTE and 1x I would have e to turn on /off the Airplane mode to get a better signal.

My wife and I both have iPhone 7 128GB Verizon. Mine is Jet Black and hers is Silver.

My phone has been dropping to "No Service" as described on this forum. My wife's phone, on the other hand, has not been dropping to "No Service", however every once in a while has been going to 3G / 1x. This has been annoying but nowhere near as frustrating as the No Service issue. So not all Verizon iPhone 7 phones are experiencing the No Service issue.

I went in to the Genius Bar and they are replacing my device. The tech also noticed that my phone was very hot (I had noticed it too after I unboxed it but thought it was a normal iPhone 7 thing).

My theory is that there are two issues: 1) the No Service issue is a result of bad hardware (antenna or something), but 2) that there's also an issue with Verizon (the 3G / 1x thing) that is confusing things.

I am on AT&T and having the same problem.  My iphone 7 not connecting in all the places my iphone 6 did and dropping in random places.  I had a new sim, reset network and all other suggestions I have seen, with no luck.  Hopfully Apple finds a solution or I have to return the phone.  I can't depend on the iphone 7 as it is.

I am also having the same issue. Verizon iPhone 7 128 GB. Dropping service where I've never had any issues with a 6 or 6S. Also, if I lose signal in an elevator such as my condo building, it takes a couple minutes for the phone to find signal whereas it took a matter of seconds with my previous-generation iPhones.

This issue is dis-proportionally impacting Verizon phones from what I can see.  People have also gotten replacement phones with the same issue.  If there is a hardware issue, there would seem to be two possibilities:

    1.  There is a significant number of phones with issues (enough that replacements are coming with the same issue) and they are mostly focused in the Verizon model (and apparently some batches in EU).

    2.  There are a small number of actual hardware issues that explain the small number of AT&T phones reporting the issue.  There is a much larger software issue that happens because of issues in specific networks.  Verizon's infrastructure is much more likely to expose the software issue.  Replacement phones that fix the problem may indicate Verizon has rolled out local changes to it's network in that area more than any difference in the phone (e.g. enabling VoLTE on all towers in an area).

Just went back to the Apple Store after support line had me perform network reset and factory restore over pay two days without improvements.

Genius Bar ran full diagnostics but did not find any issues. They were not inclined to replace the hardware and instead advised me to reach out to verizon first and/or perform another factory reset. Mentioning threads like this and hundreds of similar issues did not change their recommended next steps.

Too much hassle, so I decided to return the phone.

There is a separate thread for no service issue but for those that have good service but have GPS issues like I do with my 7 plus on AT&T, has replacing the device fixed the GPS?

If you aren't losing service or dropping to 3g/4g in areas with known good LTE coverage, it sounds like you might just have a faulty GPS and there is a decent chance a new phone will fix it.

I have the same problem, but I fix it by going into airplane mode for a few seconds and then back to normal mode.

Jacob - a lot of people have this same problem. GPS is independent of LTE, so if both drop together, its  more than a faulty GPS; it's likely on the board that brings them together and manages the antennae (the phone has multiple antenna) reception. A new phone might fix it, especially if its a bad batch of phones with a manufacturing defect.

I honestly doubt it's a hardware issue because GPS and LTE DO work fine together when VOLTE is off.  The same hardware is being used when VOLTE is on.  The only difference would be how the software juggles all of this.  It seems like an issue in the carrier profile and/or iOS 10.0.2 to me.

The GPS and LTE being independent is my point. If someone is just having problems with GPS only, it's probably a bad phone. Those losing all service and GPS at the same time seems a lot more like a software issue or if it's a hardware issue it's only exposed on Verizon. Given people have gotten several replacement phones with the issue and it seems to be impacting people who purchased at different times and in different areas, it would have to be a pretty large defective batch if it was just hardware.

I Too have been having the same exact problem. 3G to 1x To no service a lot! Other phones in the area are on full 4g at the time. Also it will say LTE but Siri, navigations and internet are all out then no service kicks in and my phones sometimes freezes up when it does this. Verizon 128 black plus. I called Verizon and Apple and Apple was aware of Airplane mode issue but this is not that. I've never been on airplane mode. My phone also gets really hot. 7 pages of this issue and still no response from Apple? When will they look into this? 1st time iPhone user and this *****
