Q: iMessage can receive but not send

Just today, iMessage stopped being able to send from my MacBook Air mid-2013 model.  I have tried signing out and signing back in with my Apple ID, have tried re-activating the computer from my phone's settings, and have tried switching where the iMessages are originating.  It works fine from my iPhone, so I know it's not my account itself that has the problems. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), bought at aafes a military retail.

    Hi,

I am sure if you deselected the iPhone Number on the Mac version you would find you are not seeing any iMessages.

(i.e. you are only seeing sync copies of what the phone is getting.)

Does another Apple ID work ?

Does your Apple ID work in another Mac User account on your Mac ?

The Login includes use of the Mac's Serial Number to provide a Device Specific Login

If you go to the Apple Icon Menu top left and About this Mac does the Serial Number show ?

If it is not there then you will have to take the Mac to and Apple Store and have it put back.

If Another ID works then the App is working.

If your ID does not work in another Apple ID then it is most like blocked at the Apple iMessages Server (Device Specific).

If this is the case you have to phone Apple Support (Apple Care)

You have an Apple ID issue which are free to Fix  - level one responders are Script led and will try to ignore this.

Ask to speak to someone higher.

Even then some Level 2s have not heard of the issue.

Politely ask them to check the iMessages server and see if your ID use from your Mac is blocked.

    Ask them to reset it.

This will probably mean the engineers getting involved and statements of being between 24 hours and 5 days being used to resolve this (According from others who have posted back on this).

Thank you for your answer!  It somehow fixed itself, but I'll be sure to keep this in mind if it ever happens again.
