Sep 20, 2016 11:08 AM in response to lairddanby jameson.h,Hey lairddan,
If I understand correctly, you updated to iOS 10 and you are not able to play music over your car speakers using USB Playback.
I would recommend you read this article, it may be able to help troubleshoot the issue.
Get help connecting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your car stereo - Apple SupportIf you're using USB Playback
- Restart your iOS device and your car.
- Connect your iOS device to a different stereo USB port (if you have one).
- Try a different USB cable.
- Update your iOS device.
- Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
- Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a specific third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Have a good one. -
Sep 21, 2016 7:44 AM in response to jameson.hby kichelchen,I have the same issue, but your response doesn't help at all:
1. Restarting my car and iphone isn't helpful. (Have to "reboot" my car every time I use it.) !
2.-3. Before the update, the cable worked well. I did update my iOS, not my cable !
4. I updated to iOS10, thats where the problem comes from !
5. Why updating a working car, because I updated my smartphone ? (Not every car owner can't update his car at home ...)
6. I repeat: before the update, everything worked fine ! (iTunes, Spotify, ... are having the same symthoms.)
The problem is related to the update, that's a fact.

Sep 27, 2016 5:22 AM in response to lairddanby senseinan,I have usb playback issues in Ford Focus 2013 with iPhone 6 Plus. When I connect iPhone to car usb firstly no music sound is played, but car detects iPhone. When I plug out and plug in iPhone lightning cable the sound comes. When someone calls and when I use Siri, the music playback again stops and requires plug out and plugin the cable.

Sep 27, 2016 2:48 PM in response to lairddanby Pacmasta,Same problem with my Nissan Murano (2012). Worked fine before update with the iPod feature of the car, now it is recognizing the phone, but not any music/podcasts (I tried multiple apps that always worked before). Phone is playing music (seconds count down), but no sound through the phone or the car speakers. Tested on iPhone 5 and iPhone 6S.

Sep 28, 2016 10:59 PM in response to lairddanby kichelchen,The last 2 posts do not have anything to do with the initial problem posted by lairddan and should be posted in another thread.
@lairddan: The last update 10.0.2 resolved the problem (iPhone 6, Renault Kadjar)

Oct 4, 2016 10:26 PM in response to lairddanby MayaMutt,Same issue on 2014 Frontier. Stereo recognizes that phone is attached to USB. Phone chimes at connection and begins charging. Stereo face displays track time that ticks along ... as the sound comes from the phone, not the stereo. All sequences of rebooting/unplugging/replugging have proven fruitless.
For bluetooth, the phone ring comes out of the phone, instead of the speakers as it used to, but the call functions correctly through the dashboard controls and stereo audio.
Something has gotten corrupted with the plain USB function with iOS 10.

Oct 5, 2016 10:19 AM in response to MayaMuttby MayaMutt,Update: After yet another reboot of the phone, normal USB function is working again. Not sure it will last, but for some reason it fixed itself. This was not the first reboot I've done to attempt to solve the problem. Maybe 5 is the magic number?
