Sep 20, 2016 11:11 AM in response to GodzillaDeTukwillaby jameson.h,Hi there, GodzillaDeTukwilla!
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. After reading your post, I understand that your Calendar app becomes unresponsive when trying to add a location. I know how convenient locations can be when added to your Calendar events, and want to help make sure everything is working as expected when you try to add them. I'm happy to help!
Try the following steps in order, testing how the Calendar app performs while adding a location after each one. Stop when the issue is resolved.- Quit the Calendar app, then open it back up while holding Shift key on your keyboard.
- Restart your Mac by clicking the Apple menu and selecting Restart... from the drop down.
- Try adding a location in safe mode. The following article will help get into safe mode, and give additional information about what it does.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up
Even though the title of the article doesn't match your situation exactly, safe mode is still a good step to try. It will run a scan of your system during boot, and disable software and processes that could be causing a conflict.
- Try in another user account. The article linked below will explain why this can be a helpful step to take, and walk you through creating a new user account.
How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac
Have a great day! - Quit the Calendar app, then open it back up while holding Shift key on your keyboard.

Sep 29, 2016 1:54 AM in response to GodzillaDeTukwillaby petesan,I have this problem, too, and it is very frustrating that Apple doesn't fix this. It has something to do with Calendar trying to look up locations as you are typing - a "feature" that I wish they would let you turn off. It may possibly also relate to the use of an Exchange server back-end. I'm on a corporate Exchange server for calendar and e-mail. Apple still has lots of bugs in it's interface with Exchange.
Instead of typing something like ZZ, I have found that if I just type the first few letters very fast, things are OK. So I have gotten in the habit of typing the first 2-3 letter of my actual location quickly. It's when you enter one character and then pause that the crashes occur.
