Q: Kernel panic errors after swapping out TimeMachine external drive (Lacie)

I had a LacieDrive go haywire that was designated to TimeMachine backups. I bought a new drive (G-Drive) and I'm backing up to that one now. Every few hours the Mac now crashes and reboots with below Kernel panic message.

I've already deleted the TimeMachine plst but it's still doing it. I suspect that the machine comes to some process where it looks for the old Lacie drive?

Here's the report. Any insights into how to fix this without reinstalling Mavericks would be greatly appreciated. I need to stay on Mavericks for audio recording.

Thanks

I would start with removing the non-Apple ktexs and their connected devices.:

    com.cisco.kext.acsock 1.1.0

    c.tctechnologies.driver.Saffire 4.3.0 41017

    com.jmicron.driver.jmPeripheralDevice 2.0.2

I doubt the virtualbox is causing the problem

Since this "com.apple.iokit.IOStorageFamily" is in the backtrace that points  to the cause possibly be writing to a storage device

Thanks for the suggestion and for reviewing this.

I know what the cisco thing is (my remote connection to work) and the Saffire is essential as well (recording device).

Already ditched the virtualbox since it's not needed anylonger anyway. Any idea what the jmicron could be? Is that perhaps related to the now gone Lacie drive?

    For Jmicron:

    http://www.jmicron.com/

Yes, seems to be from the Lacie device

Run this and post the results here so we know more about your configuration.

Here's the report I got. Just to clarify:

I started with two USB drives, one G-Drive and one Lacie. The Lacie acted as the TimeMachine drive before it went defective. I replaced it with with a second G-Drive USB (4T) which is supposed to be the TimeMachine bkup drive now. Right now TM is deactivated and the computer hasn't crashed since. There is a complaint in the report below that it is too small. I have it partitioned to 3TB and 1TB as a spare.

What is on the 2TB G-Drive?  You are backing up that to the 3TB G-Drive partition.

You are getting the error since you want the TM volume to be at least 3 times the size of the used disks space being backed up..

Are you using TeamViewer? The report list high CPU usage.

The jmicron could be part of the G-Drive drivers

The 2TB G-Drive is my main data drive for photo editing and audio recording. So it's correct that it gets backed up. I'm excluding the 3TB TM partition (of course) and also the second partition on the new G-Drive (1TB) which is mostly a scratch disk for Adobe and some junk. I'm ok with letting that partition go also and just set up the 4TB backup drive.

Another thought I had was to see if the old second partition on the busted Lacie drive could have caused a dependency issue since it was my scratch disk for Photoshop. I did however delete it from all settings in the Adobe software.

And yes, I'm using teamviewer to keep an eye on the Mac Mini while I'm away right now.
