Q: El Capitan to Yosemite

Hi, i have just downgraded form El Capitan to Yosemite, due to struggling with music interface, midi and software after installing El Capitan..

I then restored via time machine and it put El Capitan back on as well as everything else...

I did all this via instruction from a site and followed it to the letter

Am i or the site missing something please ?

Thank you in advance

iPad, iOS 7.0.4

Clarification questions - Are Yosemite and El Capitan both installed? What OS version does the computer boot into?

HI thanks, EL Capitan is 10.11.6 .. After a couple of tries yosemite did install and is on the computer. It was the OSX when purchased I believe..

Yosemite installed, appeared fine, but when I re installed everything from latest time machine back up, yes it installed El Capitan As the OSX ..

Im looking to re install everything except the OS X ..

THanks for advice and assistance really appreciate it ..

    best

If I'm understanding what is going on, try reinstalling an older backup from when Yosemite was the OS that was installed. Once complete, you can then enter Time Machine using the application and restore just your newer files.

HI, while I am greatful for the advice, I tried this and when it came to restartping the computer following the time machine restore which did go back to may this year, it stalled . I tired to restart from the tool bar at the top but still nothing. I had to turn the machine off and on again, when I did this black screen apple logo and underneath bar filling up showing I presume the install, but then it stops about half way and I have to reboot in utilities etc ..

any advice would be much appreciated thanks ..

You are welcome. I don't know how much time you gave Time Machine to restore, but the restores I've done have taken 10-12 hours and I only have 288+ GB of data. You may need to give it more time.
