Q: What TV set to buy to go with Apple TV 4?

My mom is getting my husband the Apple TV 4 for his birthday next week, and I wanted to upgrade our TV to something bigger that would be a good match with the Apple TV, but I'm super confused by all the TV reviews I'm reading. It seems like most TVs now have features embedded that do a lot of what Apple TV does (like Roku sets?), and I don't want to pay for features I don't need.

Can someone offer me some guidance about what to look for and what features are unnecessary in a set to use with Apple TV?

Can you recommend some good quality, reasonably priced 50-60inch TVs that would pair well with Apple TV?

Thank you!

The only thing it needs is an HDMI port.

Apple TV needs a free HDMI port on the TV set to connect to and an internet connection (wired Ethernet or wirelsss Wi-Fi) to bring in programming. It also helps to have a cable service as many ATV apps require it to make their programming accessible.

BTW, you will not be billed for services built into a TV set unless you sign up for them.

As Winston says, as long as the TV has an HDMI port, it will work with the ATV. Beyond that, look for a television in the size you want that's within your price range. Check the online review places like CNET and Amazon.

I agree, buying a television is confusing. And the boys at Best Buy just wanted to sell me ones that were way too large without explaining any of the features. So, I did what I always do. I bought the Samsung that was the right size and was on sale. Probably could have gotten something just as good for less if I'd been willing to do lots of research. But, really, I just want to watch Netflix and iTunes content.
