Q: Bluetooth Streaming Audio Problems

Hardware:

- iPhone 7 Plus

- iOS version: 10

My wife was lucky enough to get her 7 Plus on launch, unlike thousands of others (myself included). But when she is trying to stream music in her car (2011 Toyota Venza), it seems to be problematic. Audio will randomly cut out (directions, music, SIRI, etc) and the radio will change from listing the song name to "Streaming Audio" for a while.

This was also confirmed to happen on a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2013 Ford Focus. Also tested iPhone 6S Plus on iOS 9.3.5 and an iPhone 6S Plus on iOS 10 - both have zero issues on any vehicle. It appears to be localized to the 7 Plus.

Some of the original Air Pod testers reported this to be a problem, yet it doesn't appear to have been address. Kind of a funny move to make, considering it's a core usability concern of the new iPhones without a 3.5mm jack. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for updating standards, but compromising the functionality of the device by shipping it with this bug is a real killer.

Seems like we've got some issues with streaming audio via Bluetooth. The BT versioning from the 6S to the 7 is the same (v4.2), it's unlikely that there is any incompatibility between the tested hardware. There have also been a few reports on Reddit about this now. Anyone else having problems?

I'm having this issue also. I have an iPhone 7 Plus and a 2016 Lexus and the same exact problems that you just listed. The audio works fine for a few minutes but then the audio starts to skip then it just stops playing it all together. I have already reset my phone and car system and the problem is still on going. I'm really hoping this is just a software fix, rather than a hardware fix.

Looking at other forums the issue seems to be very common with BMW cars. I have also noticed that on my Beats Pill+ the audio works just fine so it might just be the way that it's streaming to cars, not sure if its cause contacts and more information has to be synced.

After posting this, I picked up two more 7 Pluses, and both have the issue. One of the vehicles we tried is a 2007 335i - also is problematic. I opened a case with Apple, Hopefully something can be solved soon.

So I just updated my phone to the public beta iOS 10.1 and it seems to have corrected the problem for me. I haven't had any skips or the audio turning off. I've only tested it out twice on two commutes that were 20 min long each. But I'm hoping that this fixes the problem.

Anyone else download it and still experiencing problems?

Good to know. I've been in contact with the engineering team to provide logs of the problems and have caught it happening several times. Hopefully once I offload this data onto them, they can parse through it and figure out what's causing the problem.

I Updated to 10.1 and am still experiencing the issue

This is super lame, makes Uber driving with one device impossible.

Mine still skips, but it isn't as bad as it was before. It doesn't turn thw music off at all, but still very annoying.

I have the same issue in a 2015 Lexus. Streams fine for ~10 minutes, then starts to cut out like a bad satellite signal before shutting off completely. The car still thinks it's connected and shows audio as playing (track time continues counting up).

BT streaming is confirmed to work on my soundbar at home with no issues.

Yeah seems like there's no fix for it yet. The twi car brands that are getting some issues seems like BMW and Toyota/Lexus. I tested this out on a friends 2014 Toyota Camry and it's the same issue.
