Q: Why are there 5 duplicate "iMac" Shared/Devices in Finder?

I had noticed a couple duplicates before (even with Mavericks) but now there are suddenly 5 "iMac"'s showing under Shared & Devices in Finder. What's going on? There's only one iMac and two WIN PC's on network. Been this way for years.

I did what you suggested.  I changed the computer name to iMac from iMac (2) in Preferences/Sharing, then turned off the wifi and turned it back on.  Now the name stays at iMac and hasn't reverted to a duplicate name since.

Glad to hear that. Was this before/after 10.10.1 update? Anything else?

This definitely seemed to be a network bug and resetting/restarting Computer Name, Wi-Fi devices, Router/Modem,..etc was effective in correcting the problem.

    If I helped, please accordingly.

    Aaaaannd it's back!

Not as bad or annoying, only a name change to "iMac (2)" after powering up.

Only three computers on Wi-Fi network (1 x iMac and 2 x PC's) + iPhone. I even restarted all Airport devices and DSL modem just yesterday too.

Could it have something to do with IP address or "Wake for network access" (System Prefs>Energy Savings>) being ON as mentioned in other post? Regardless, I unchecked the latter one to try, but I'm not sure I'll really know since it's been so long.

Can't recall what finally resolved this issue (El Capitan?), but it has never reoccured again.

    Running Sierra now...
